From September to September, the annual working meeting of the steel structure Expert Committee of China building metal structure association was held in Wuhan. At the meeting, three academicians of the Chinese Academy of engineering, Professor Shen Zuyan of Tongji University, Dong Shilin of Zhejiang University and Ma Kejian of Guizhou University, jointly proposed to vigorously develop steel structure buildings in order to solve the serious excess steel production capacity.

Shen Zuyan used “light, fast, good, province” to describe the characteristics of steel structure buildings. He believed that steel structure buildings are very suitable for industrial construction.Dong Shilin brings his new research results: a kind of “spherical reticulated shell” composed of six bar tetrahedral elements, which is convenient for industrial prefabrication.Ma Kejian popularized multi-storey and large-span “grid structure” on site, mainly used for assembly construction.
According to reports, 80% of the components of steel structure buildings can be processed in factories, and can be easily removed. Some products and materials can be reused and recycled, which is an important representative of green buildings.Compared with the traditional concrete building, its self weight is reduced by 40%, the construction efficiency is increased by 4 times, the construction period is shortened by 1 / 3, the carbon emission is reduced by 35%, and the housing acquisition rate is increased by more than 5%.
Statistics show that in recent five years, the annual steel consumption of steel structure construction in China ranges from 30 million tons to 50 million tons, accounting for about 5% of the steel output. Compared with 45% in the United States, 28% in Japan and 22% in Germany, this proportion is significantly lower.Academicians believe that by vigorously promoting and developing steel structure buildings, we can not only solve the excess capacity of the iron and steel industry, but also promote the construction industrialization and realize the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries.
